After a brief survey of problems related to the static atmospheric electricity and insulation of stay ropes of MF and LF broadcast tower antennas is presented, the following theoretical contributions and technical solutions to these problems, given by research team at Faculties in Belgrade and Nish, are reviewed:
* An efficient method for computing the electrostatic fields in the surroundings of the stayed masts, as well as the voltages on stay insulators;
* A method for eliminating the static electricity from stays by draining coils;
* The design of a quarter wavelength monopole antenna supported by non insulated stay ropes;
* A novel approach to the design of insulators in MF tower broadcast antenna stays, and, finally,
* An efficient solution for protecting the ends of synthetic--fibre stay ropes against strong electric fields.}
