In 1918 J.M. Hlitchiev left Peterburg (half year after revolution). Till middle of 1919 he stayed at Polytechnic Institute of Herson upon r. Don, as an associate professor, teaching Strength of Materials, Shipbuilding and Approximate/Value Calculus. In 1920 he reached Belgrade.
Professor Hlitchiev worked at Faculty of Engineering of the University of Belgrade between 1920 and 1958, at the Chair of Technical Mechanics. After retiring of Professor Arnovljević, and after the war, Prof. Hlitchiev was appointed Head of Chair. He wrote several textbooks in the field of Strength of Materials and Theory of Elasticity.
With scientific work Professor Hlitchiev started in Russia, back before revolution, but his main scientific activity took place during almost 40 years spent at the University of Belgrade. Most important results Prof. Hlitchiev achieved analyzing following problems: torsion and bending of thin-walled members; bending of continuous beams on elastic supports or on cross-girders; bending of plates with various boundary conditions, buckling of continuous beams on elastic supports, stability of plates reinforced by ribs; problems connected with strength of slip's structures. Most usual mathematical tools he used were trigonometric series.
