In general about the book
Digital signal processing is today one of the most interesting domain of applied electronics, not only for experts but also for students of the electrical engineering faculties and others who want to understand work of modern electronics gadgets.
This book has for aim to explain, through numerous examples, basic processes and algorithms of DSP. Author covered almost all key concepts of the DSP. Beside that, there are some practical applications of the DSP such as speech recognition, image processing, motor control etc. The accompanying CD-ROM includes MATLAB files and examples in order to help the reader to verify the methods presented in the text.
Chapter content
This book is divided into sixteen chapters, fourteen appendices and Index.
Chapter 1 provides short review of major topics of the book with minimal mathematics. Chapter 2 describes procedure for analog to digital signal conversion. The conversion of processed digital signal back into an analog signal is also discused. Chapter 3 provides some experience with defining and handling digital signals. Chapters 4 through Chapter 8 cover important basic theory of the DSP such as difference equations, digital convolution, z-transforms, discrete time Fourier transforms etc. The essential concepts of filter, transfer function, frequency response, and spectrum are developed. Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 give us procedures for digital filter design for both finite impulse response and infinite impulse response filters. Chapter 11 discusses discrete and fast Fourier transforms, while Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 examine DSP hardware and programming issues. Some practical aspects of the DSP, especially for the sound and image are investigated in Chapter 14 and Chapter 15 . Chapter 16 explains wavelet theory and applications. Wavelet have found application in signal and image compresion. This Chapter provides a compact introduction to wavelets and wavelet transform.
Numerous appendices, from A to N, make this book complete without need for outside readings or references. Essential mathematical topics necessary to understand the material are also included in the appendix. All examples are represented by MATLAB code founded by accompanying CD. This CD package includes sample sounds, images, data, and video sequences for most chapters, as well as software for spectrograms and wavelets.
Very useful for experts as a fast remainder, and for others, practical guide through the DSP
This book is well written, examples are carefully chosen and they have clear explanations. Mathematical considerations and theory of the DSP are simplified in order to make this book easy to read. Although style of this book seems popular it is good and authoritative. I think that this book is valuable contribution to the existing literature and therefore: I highly recommend it.
